Last Friday (11.04.), the first group of participants successfully completed the Medical Management Microdegree, with 17 healthcare professionals graduating from the programme. Designed for healthcare workers and leaders, this continuing education programme provided participants with the critical knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective healthcare management. The programme was delivered by leading experts in the field, who brought real-life experience and insights to the learning process. Throughout the course, participants acquired practical tools to enhance patient care and optimize organizational resources.
Dr. Mariken Ross, a hematologist at the North Estonia Medical Centre(PERH) and one of the creators and lecturers of the program, emphasized its strong foundation in real-world needs: “Medical management is an important topic, both from the perspective of the overall healthcare system and the quality of smaller units. The structure of our course made it possible to approach medical management as a whole. Experts in their respective fields ensured a practical and real-life–oriented view on all topics — whether it was artificial intelligence or financial management. The first group of graduates included both current and future leaders from various areas of healthcare and with diverse backgrounds. Excellent discussions, group work, and practical examples shared by participants made the course enjoyable and helped bring together different perspectives into a bigger picture. I sincerely thank all the participants of this first group for their thoughtful contributions and active engagement — you were a great support throughout the entire course.”
The structure and content of the programme were also highly valued by participants. Marge Iidel, CEO of Perekliinik and one of the attendees, shared her experience: “I joined the Medical Management Microdegree course with the goal of expanding my knowledge of healthcare management, broadening my professional perspective, and meeting new, inspiring lecturers and fellow students to gain practical insights and experiences. As an alumna of EUAS, having completed both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I especially valued the opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge. Real life and diverse experiences are the best teachers! The course was well-structured — there were some lecturers I could have listened to for hours. They were true professionals in their fields and shared valuable real-world insights. In addition, the course brought together a truly wonderful and active group of healthcare professionals from different backgrounds, which made for engaging discussions and great networking opportunities.”
The wider impact of the microdegree within the context of Ülemiste City was highlighted by Eneken Titov, the programme's lead lecturer and a member of the Management Board at AS Mainor: “In recent years, Ülemiste City has focused on supporting positive health behavior—both for individuals and company employees. ÜC is a unique campus, as no other city or community has its own health behavior model, but ÜC does. In addition to actively attracting diverse health and medical service providers to the campus, many other health-promoting initiatives are also taking place. By offering the Medical Management Microdegree, EUAS added an essential piece to this puzzle. Alongside supporting the talents and businesses in the campus, we are now also providing support to health and healthcare organizations to help them develop their leadership skills.”
The experience of the first group confirmed a clear need for meaningful and practical leadership training in the healthcare sector. Preparations for launching the next group are already underway, and those interested are encouraged to keep an eye on the university's website for updates.
